Best 3 online cigar retailers?

While I see bfree's point, I guess I look at it a little differently---if I recommend a few online retailers who've done righteously by me, it's not so much the "askee" I'm benefiting as it is them. I'm sending business their way, in gratitude for how well they've treated me in the past. Simple.

After all . . . anyone can read a thread, anyway. It's not like someone has to have been here x-amount of time to see the replies, no matter who asked.

And I agree with sending people to Mark or Al or Isy, etc. They are the trusted vendors here, no doubt about that, they deserve the chance to get business.

My point is that many of us have spent years finding vendors, etc and when a 2 day old member joins and asks for our 3 Best Retailers, it sort of rubs me the wrong way. Do some damn research, call vendors, price them against others, etc.

Man, I know you are only super new here, but I am gonna give you some ultra secret advice: http://tinyurl.com.au/x.php?1vai

This is a well kept secret site that sources super high quality, secret cigars for senators and secret people.

That sums it up right there and was exactly what I was thinking when I saw the title of the thread. This information is out there if you spend some time and search for it instead of just making a completely new thread. And I agree that anyone who comes on and makes posts like this is not looking to be involved in the community and is only looking for immediate gratification with no work on their own part.

X3. Well said, both of you. Instant gratification doesn't seem near fast enough, anymore..... ;)

People ignore the more senior members these days, its the way to be.
Sadly, Phil, I have to agree.

And what's wrong with all of this happening three or four weeks from now after the guy has had some interaction here? Instead of right out of the gate?

Guys, why assume the worst from a new member? At least, why do it before there is reason? When you make such generalizations, you lump every new person into one category. Everybody here was new at some point and I'm sure posted the same type questions. He asked for recommendations for a vendor who won't screw him . . . he didn't ask for best prices or the best CC vendor. If he had asked for humidor recommendations, or even 3 good cigars for noobs, would that have really been any different?

The reason I'm posting is because you are generalizing to a point that everyone here (including me) who is not a FOG is cast into a negative lot. I understand the "earn your dues" theory and respect it. I also know that you don't think newbs should have any say . . . I understand that too. The point I make is that you, unnecessarily, label us all in a negative light. You may not care, but I hope you do.

Some of the senior members talk about animosity and uproar from the new folks. If we are predetermined to be ungrateful, selfish and whiny little brats, or told to sit down and STFU, what incentive do we have not to ignore the senior members?

....the converse to which is; If the bulk of new members presume that this is the place to buy and sell, score rare smokes, find "sources" and have no interest at all in contributing to the community, what incentive do the senior members have to continue to contribute and to pay any attention whatsoever to the new guys?

The answer to your question is none . . . which is the same answer to mine.

That leaves everybody at the "what to do" position . . . continue arguing, fighting, making snide remarks back and forth or talk it out, respect each other's position and accept each other as brothers?

Brandon's right, be here a while and learn what CP is about. Read the post in BST forum and all the information is there.

Dulanney, don't try to justify what is not an accepted practice here. I'm sure the guy was just asking, but we need to stop, look and listen before we answer.

Anyone else need clarification on what it is to pay your dues here?

search is your friend...

Post less, read more and SEARCH!

I disagree. The reason to contribute and pay attention to the new members is because you have information that we do not. I don't get the desire to refrain from spreading that information.

The guy just asked for good online retailers... why wouldn't you want to give that information to anyone. Maybe you got screwed a couple times, but don't you want to keep someone else from having that experience? Also, recommending good retailers keeps business away from bad retailers.

You say he should do some research... is polling more experienced people NOT research?

I can understand if he had asked for the best deals or a source for CC's, but he didn't.

Many many people consider their hard earned NC vendors, just as important at CC vendors.

Stick around and you'll get it.

The FOG's are not a group of guys who meet to review CP and ultimately adopt a position, they are a group of individuals so it really isn't feasible for "the FOG's"to state their position, there is no single FOG position.

I think we are seeing a reaction to the FNG's who come here for the wrong reasons. This is a brotherhood or fraternity, if you will, of guys and girls with a common interest, that being cigars. There are an over-abundance of new guys coming here to "get something" rather than to be part of the fraternity. If those new guys stick around, they will learn about the brotherhood and the people we have heard from here are just trying to help them do that.

Just my .02

Apparently you don't get it. Six posts total and were do I get the best deals. There is no refrain from sharing information, if you've been here a while a you see how it works. To ask right away is plain rude. My parents taught me better manners than that, how about the rest of you?

I'm sure if you did that with a woman you'd get skunked. I tried to put the analogy so all can get it.

This isn't a debate society where you pick a position and debate it. You don't like what is said move on or live with the circumstance. Whether it is NCs or CCs you earn what you get here!

This might very well be the best post I have read this year  Not only does it close a debate that should not have been, it does so by opening a new and refreshing tack for this thread.

THE SCENARIO: A nice upscale bar:

Hi, my name is Jeff, which one of you lovely ladies is most likely to give it up?

I normally don’t comment on these type threads as I am still new here. But I am a strong believer in you need to put time in ANYTHING in life before you reaps its benefits. As an example, I took today off to do some landscaping around the house. My daughter wanted some extra money so I told her she could earn some helping me. She helped me (very well I might add) and was paid accordingly.

You want something in life you should work for it and not expect a hand out. Whether it’s spending money for girl clothes or information from a tight knit community such as ours.

Read more post less and be a sponge. Make friends through general sharing of information and participation. Listen and learn and at some point if you put in the time and effort you will be welcome .

I like this place very much but only expect to get back what I put in.

Frank
