It is interesting you bring this up. In conversations with Mike at McClellands, this was the idea behind the new orientals. There are many "flavors" out there that have been forgotten....so to say. As far as the new blend being tweaked.....who knows. There are soo many great blends out there...

LB is correct. The original is very expensive....but oh so good. The pouches(late 80's-90's) can be had for about $25 a piece. Not the original, but a great balkan none the less. I honestly havent found anything I would call close. It is sad the blends of yesteryear have been lost.

I agree with Alan, Penzance is a go-to baccy. Depending on your tastes, I have recently opened a tin of MacBarens Navy Flake. Very good Vaper with a touch of Cavendish for sweetness. Also you may look into the Rattrays blends. Old Gowrie and Hal o' Wynd are both extremely enjoyable. Really I...

I have a CAO Meer as well. A billiard with the lattice carvings. I have been highly impressed and would definately purchase another.

I was just looking at Mars Cigars this morning. They have the Old Boys for $75 in a few different finishes. From what the guys I know who have them have said, they are indestructible......and pretty classy.

I agree with the above. I like Hal O Wynd and Old Gowrie. Most Rattrays I have had are pretty good. Stock up without fear.

Sorry for the delayed response. Atrisan work he is great at.....electronics, not so much. If there is one you would like a better picture of, a quick email and I am sure he would be happy to get you a few. In fact, I am sure he would welcome the conversation with a fellow pipe smoker.

Popped open a tin of Murrays Nightcap. Reading the last few entries set me in the mood for this blend.

81 should be the size/style number. It is kinda hard to date pipes unless they are higher end. Good looking pipe. Should smoke flakes like a dream.

Try setting your baccy out of the tin for a bit before smoking. Tinned baccy seems to stay a tad wetter than it should be, so give it an hour....or overnight depending when you smoke. I am glad the packing issue seemed to help it a tad.
