There's really no reason to use PG on beads. That stuff is a mess and distilled water is cheaper and works much better. The beads are designed to maintain 65% of 70% RH on their own, making PG useless. That stuff is better for units that don't regulate humidity themselves like sponges or crystals.
I'm sure Padilla will be fine, I smoke a '68 last night which as far as I know was not a Pepin blend- and it was excellent. As long as they continue to produce cigars of that quality, I'll happily continue smoking them no matter who is behind the blend.
I'm having the same problem here in Chicago. They won't turn the air conditioning on in my building until it gets ridiculously hot, and my humidor has been sitting at 75 - 76 degrees. It's getting to be a real worry to me, I think I'll have to get a cooler going.
I've had the same experience with them. All their cigars are shipped with humidity pouches and arrive on time, and the only time I did have a problem with an order I called Nancy and she fixed it right away.
I live in Chicago and split my business between four different B&M's in my area. One day I walked into a very well known, highly reputable tobacconist (not Jack Schwartz) and saw a beetle walking around in a box of Gurkha's. The cigars were pretty well chomped. I got a box of matches and called...
If I could afford to smoke a high quality cigar every night of the week I'd do it in a heartbeat. Since I can't though, having 2 or 3 good ones a week beat having 7 mediocre ones.
I have two of those same Madelaine's jars at the bottom of my humidor and while they don't necessarily regulate the humidity at 70% they are pretty good at keeping it up. Why not add another humidification device? Those jars are only $8.
I felt really sick after having a little Romeo y Julieta maduro a while back. I was smoking outside with some friends in the dead of winter and had to hurry back in to lie down. I was glad nobody was around, I was embarrassed about being floored by such a small cigar.
A Perdomo had the same...
I'm completely guilty of saving cigars for a "special occasion." While I don't really mind this habit because I think it makes me enjoy them more on the occasions when I actually do smoke one of them, this thread has inspired my to fire up a Davidoff I've had sitting at the top of my humidor for...
I just bought this guy:

It's really nice because you can adjust the reading after calibrating it. Mine was off by 6 points after the salt test, so the adjustment came in handy for sure.
I actually really enjoy Gurkha's, all the ones I have are in fine condition. I ordered a Gurkha sampler from Tampa Humidor a while back which was great because you don't have to pay the normal Gurkha prices and they are shipped with humidification.
The only Gurkha I didn't like was the...
I smoked a Kuba last night and had the same reaction most of you did. While it was a nicely constructed cigar, it burned evenly and ashed beautifully, I thought it tasted like soap. My two next door neighbors love Kuba's and told me to bite my tongue when I said it was sub-par.
By the way...
