A very interesting article about President Kennedy's executive order barring trade with Cuba. Yes, he had his press secretary buy "a few' boxes just before he signed the order. I found this to be an interesting read....enjoy.

Fun read! Thanks for sharing that. I had never heard the story about getting the Upmann's then signing the embargo. Crazy to think that was a half century ago....

Great read and I have heard about this story. I say keep the embargo as I feel that production/quality is probably a tight balancing act as it is now. Imagine opening up this market. I would guess that quality would suffer over production. Just my 2 cents.

Since I am unable to buy them... I say let the quality slide a little. :)

The only thing wrong with the embargo is that I have to break a law to enjoy my favorite cigars. What a shame! :(

Us older guys have heard the story about the 'big cigar buy' for a long time...but for many years it was just speculation and rumor. It wasn't until Pierre Salinger let the cat out of the bag was the rumor confirmed, although I thought he first told the story in his memoir. My point is...what we all found funny was, of all the people, it was "crazy" Salinger that actually did it! I guess he wasn't so crazy back then when he was needed to get JFK his prized cigars...

You do know the embargo effects a lot of other things not related to cigars, right?

I certainly do and I appreciate you reminding the selfish cigar smoker in me that there are more important things in life than cigars. :whistling:

I have some of those cigars and I may be posting some of them F/S soon.

If I do, I promise to do it on a Friday. :whistling:

I've been pondering how effective the embargo has been. I know that Cuba's economy is in bad shape, or at least that is the impression that I have. We are the only country involved in the embargo so anyone from any other country can buy Cuban products and vacation there. That being the case it seems to me that Cuba's problems are a result of their government. That may be an over simplification, I don't know, maybe John can weigh in on this.
