I have a Gerber and lover it. And well they are right here in Portland last time I had a problem with it (the wire cutter chipped) I took it down there and they replaced it free of charge. rp

Having been backpacking for 20 years, I can tell you 2 things based strictly on hiking usability.
1. Ive never once needed a multi-tool. If you want one for the peace of mind, I say go for it. A good knife will do anything you might encounter on the trail. There arent many nuts or bolts that need tightning in nature.
