Any multitool users out there?

I have a Gerber and lover it. And well they are right here in Portland last time I had a problem with it (the wire cutter chipped) I took it down there and they replaced it free of charge. rp
 
I'm inclined to keep the subscription to Outside Magazine as well. I've read a couple issues and it's pretty good. IMHO
 
I got one issued to me about 12 years ago. I had a choice between a Leatherman and a Gerber. I opted for the Gerber, because it was all black, it has served me well.
 
Another Leatherman Super Tool 200 owner here. It works just fine, but I really miss the Gerber that I lost that this one replaced. Opening it with a flick of the wrist was really handy/useful.
 
My wife just got me a Leatherman for Christmas. Shizz rocks!! :D

Having been backpacking for 20 years, I can tell you 2 things based strictly on hiking usability.

1. Ive never once needed a multi-tool. If you want one for the peace of mind, I say go for it. A good knife will do anything you might encounter on the trail. There arent many nuts or bolts that need tightning in nature.

2. Forget an axe or hatchet. A good aluminum triangular foldable saw will last you forever. Its 1/4 of the weight, packed much more easily, the risk of serious injury is almost nill, and the energy it takes to operate is a fraction of what is required to swing an axe or hatchet. Every one of the 4 aforementioned reasons will make much more sense after a few multi-day packs.

Its all about packing light, and packing only the basic essentials. I laugh to myself at all the junk sold to "campers". Once again, this applying to actual backpacking where you carry everything you own in your pack over several miles. If your gonna back the truck up and set up the 12 person tent, disregard my advice :D

I don't use my multi-tool for hiking... I have one in the car that I have used innumerable times for various functions (knife, screwdriver, corkscrew, saw, etc.), and one at home for various little things around the house.

The nice thing about multitools, IMHO, is you have one convenient little tool for misc. little tasks. I find it far more useful around the house and in the car than I ever would in the woods... I definitely agree.
 
Funny story about a multitool. My little brother is 10, he cracks me up everday, hes a character. Tonight we had crab legs for dinner along with some family friends. So of coarse like all kids do they eat as quick as they can with as much food in their mouth that will hold, then run off and play like theres no tommarrow. So me being the nice and helpful son :D I went and picked up their mess in the basement, I discovered a pair of plyers and a multitool used to crack open the crab legs. LMAO it was hilarious, there is crab meat and crumbs of crab legs all over the table. Just thought you guys would enjoy that. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!!!
