Went out to dinner last night, and when we were leaving I decided to go check out the Tesla's which were charging at the Tesla Charging Station.  Asked one of the owners how he liked his car, and turned out he works for Tesla and was here on vacation.  He offered to let me drive it, so I did.  I am AMAZED by the pick up it had.  He had the P85D, which does 0-60 in 3 seconds.  This thing is like a roller coaster.  In any case, if you have the opportunity to drive one, do!  Also, youtube Tesla Insane Mode, and see what comes up.  :)

Glad to hear a personal account.  There has to be a Tesla rental place here on the island, because I see them all the time.  There were three in the parking lot of the museum I work at one day.  I've always been really curious about them.

Good looking cars. I'm not certain I trust an electric vehicle, no matter the 0-60 time, in colorado's snow. For the price tag, it had better be able to get me where I need, even after a few inches of snowfall. I would defenitly love to test one out.

There are a ton of them in the parking lot at work.  Granted, they are pretty cool but, for that kind of money, frankly there are lots of other cars with more of a track record that I'd put in the garage.  If I had the means to have a couple dozen cars, sure it'd be fun to have one.

As they say, one man's opinion.......

My good friend has one, and we take to to play golf every weekend... It rides like a BMW, and with the linear acceleration (no gears), is it quite amazing. We also figured that it cost about 3 cents a mile to operate.

Rod,
I had a buddy tell me they drive like a golf cart, is that true??   He said when you let off the gas you lose a lot of speed quickly.

http://my.teslamotors.com/it_IT/forum/forums/real-long-term-cost-vs-battery-life more like $0.13 per mile once battery life is factored in.

0.13 is close to what it costs to drive a traditional car in fuel depending on the price of gas. For example: you have a 24mpg car .13x24= $3.12 per gallon cost. That's close to pump prices now, not to mention Tesla's are expensive as hell $75,500 for the Model S 70D (the cheapest). For that price there's tons of cars I'd pick over a Tesla. I'd sure like to drive one as long as it's not on a road trip :)

All the rest stops (aka liquor stores) on our 2 major high ways that enter NH put in a bunch of these Tesla Charging stations. I have only seen a few of tge cars out and about. I guess someone is thinking these are going to grow in popularity soon in this area.

The guy across the street from me in my old neighborhood has one...quick as hell for sure. Scary quick. Insane mode is just that. He also has 6 cars he rotates through.

When you let off the peddle, it immediately slows down.  That's one thing I don't like about it, as it would take some getting used to.  It feels as if the brakes are being applied as soon as you let off the accelerator.

I believe Tesla is actually installing supercharge stations all over the country.  Their goal is to ensure you can always fuel up every so many miles.

Yes, this is annoying, but this feature is also adjustable to two levels, In the newer models you will be able to turn it off...What my friend does is to tap the knob next to the steering wheel and puts it into neutral... and taps it again when he is ready to accelerate... The transition is so smooth, I didn;t even notice him doing it...

Missouri and Arkansas are screwed!

We always have been, but especially Arkansas, a friend of mine just bought one, as soon I can I shall have a test drive.  It does look like it is about 214 miles between the KC and STL charging stations.  Would that be cutting it close?

Yeah it probably is because everything draws from battery life...AC, navigation, security, etc.  But these are just the supercharging stations, I think if you charge for an hour or two at some pay-stations, you can extend out your range to over 300 miles.  (Also depends on which battery you have of course).
