Fort Hood Shooting

After a frantic 30 minutes, my son who is a 10 year soldier stationed at Ft. Hood called (thank you Lord) and told us he was OK. The rest of this are in his words, nothing added.

My son is currently stationed at Ft. Hood. At the time of the shooting he was working at the building adjacent to the one where some of the shootings took place.

In his own words, he was doing his paperwork when he heard several sounds like the pop of a pneumatic nail gun. He gave that little attention. Shortly after her heard more pops ring out and thought that to be odd, so he came outside to look around.

As he walked around the corner of his building and came to the front of the building in question he saw the windows of the building shot out, wounded personnel on the ground and a mass evacuation of personnel from inside of the building.

I asked if he could tell if the shooting was by pistol or rifle; he replied that he saw rifle casing on the ground.

Military police came around the corner trying to find out what was going on. My son then left the area and went back to his building to secure the entrance and offices so as to cut off a hiding place to whoever was involved.

He stated that he “heard” (not confirmed) that one of the shooters was dead. He did not know anything about a second shooter.

His last statement was, “it is wild and crazy right now.”

Thank you all for your prayers and concerns.

I don't know what to say other than good to hear he is ok. This is a really sad day.

I'm glad to hear he is safe and the gunman is caught. Unbelievable these assholes....

Glad to hear he is safe. Sounds like he was very lucky not to be caught in the line of fire.

My Dad's a tough sonofabitch... No way some asshole like that's gonna be the death of him... Hell, he survived Iraq while being awarded the Bronze Star with Combat 'V'.... No way in Hell some radical Major with a stick up his ass is going to be the one to pull my Dad's number...

Horrible events today. My prayers are with everyone down there.

Wonderful news that Pugman's son/Lurch's dad is well...

My condolences to all the military guys killed and injured, everyone will be in my prayers tonight and for a long time.

I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened before and more than once. I met a number of folks who were wound way too tight in my time.

Glad to hear he's safe Lurch/Pugman. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

My son called at 2230 this tonight. They had finally been released and given the OK to return to quarters. He helped initially with some of the folks that were killed, in particular the police man. His female officer was also hit, but condition unknown.

He had nothing to add except for the shame of it being one of their own.

All is well, the Lurch as been in contact with us so he is resting easy also tonight.

Thank you all for your support, thoughts and prayers. We need to remember both our civilian and military personnel that go in harms way. Thank you all.

RIP my brothers in arms.

Man, this really sucks. I'm at the least glad that none of our own family members were affected.

I'm with AVB though......I knew a few guys, especially in Boot Camp that looked ready to snap at any given moment, and I'm surprised they did not.

Saying that just reminded me of an event in basic training where one guy did snap. The military career and lifestyle doesn't suit everyone. It didn't suit me at the time I was in basic so I left on my own terms.

Glad to hear he is ok! Thoughts and prayers out to the familys and friends of those not so fortunate. :(
