Lotto #16

Also we do need to have strict enforcement of the participants.
What's that mean?
I think he's saying that we need to make sure that the folks that in the lottery are sending sticks when they should. I'm guessing that some people may have forgotten that they are still listed as playing even though they haven't responded to recent calls for who's in. I know I haven't because I just assume that I'm playing until I say that I'm not. That said, I'm planning to retool starting with #17 and make sure whoever wants in says so. Plus, to paraphrase Janet Jackson, "there'll be some other surprises." ;)

I thought the policy was that if the cigars were not received b/f the next lotto then you were removed? Is that not enough?

How about we do something like over at Cigar Pool, but within the lottery posts.

The winner would post something like:

Woo Hoo I won, you like me... you really like me

#0 - Nothing I won, so no pooch missles :p
#1 -
#2 -
#3 - received
#4 -
#5 -
#6 - received
#7 -
#8 -
#9 -

And update the post when winnings are received.

This way all could see when the cigars were received and who has yet to send.

Most of us winners have done that in the past :0

But usually over several posts. Like, I received Geldor1 & Fasts winnings today. Then later on another post to list another package received.

I haven't seen it yet in this form.

Just thought this would be easier for all to read.

Just waiting for the day I get to post about the winnings I received. :p

That's my general plan starting with #17. I'll announce the opening of #17 in the next day or so.

Yep, just like that.

Even though I don't read the high roller posts. I read what the stakes are and I know I can't fulfill the requirements.

I don't mean to be a stickler, but can we set some definitive guidelines as to what kind of sticks should be sent? Are we talking mid-range? Premiums? Dog sticks?

I just think it would be fair for everyone to follow the same guidelines. There's always a couple of guys who send some really nice stuff. A few guys who send good stuff. And a few guys who send stuff that make you frow your eyebrows.

I don't think its fair for someone who pays out really well every lotto to get cigars that aren't up to snuff as winnings. The same can be said for those who pay out poorly every lotto winning really good sticks.

If need be, I'd be happy to set the appropriate guidelines for these lotteries.

Guidelines would be good.

Possibly a list of approved sticks. Brand, price or ??

Then we would all know what to send would be as good as we would receive.

<-- Still trying to figure out the difference between - premium, super premium, high end, high shelf and so on. (I do know what a dog rocket is, just ask around - or don't) :p

Somewhere in another post, someone said they were compling a list of where cigars would fall in the grand scheme of quality. This would be very helpful to those of us with lesser understanding in other passes also.

Make it something that you would smoke
I thought this covered what you needed to send.

Now after this lotto im not incharge anymore and this is one of the reason why. Not because anyone sent me dog rockets but alot of members on this board have started to bitch about the quality of cigars that they get, not only in lotto but passes ect... This to me has taken the fun out of it. It's like members are trying to "make a profit" of passes and lottos... I didn't think this is what is was about, but thats where its going and I think it sucks.

Ellman, I'm sorry to say it... but you're missing the boat. Where you think this is headed is EXACTLY what we're trying to prevent. With the way things are currently, those few people who send out low end sticks will win back a premium pack, thus turning a profit at the expense of everyone playing. Those who are screwed the most are those who consistantly play well... and then win back a package of junk.

I'll say it again... the premise behind these suggestions is so that EVERYONE playing gets an equal opportunity to win the same quality sticks as they are paying out. That way, no one is screwed... and no one makes a profit off a fellow brother. As long as everyone is being treated FAIRLY, the fun aspect will take care of itself.

Phishy hit the nail on the head.

That is the reason why I backed out of the lotto's. I hated to send out nice smokes and then hear that only 2 packages that were recieved were up to par.

Got to the point where I realized if I win I might get 2-3 packages of stuff I would smoke and then the rest would either be thrown away or ummmm thrown away. No fun in that. If everyone kept a bit of class then these problems wouldnt happen.

my .02

I think the problem is the difference in what people smoke. If you're picky join the high end lotto.

There's a far cry between what's being played in the high end lotto and what can and should be played here. But that's not the point. We've got guys who are dishing out lawn sticks as winnings and others who are dishing out really nice sticks. What I'm saying (again) is that we set a standard and we all agree to play by. If you want it to be all cheapies, then EVERYONE will pay out with cheapies. If you want decent mid-range smokes like say an AVO, or Padron Thousand series, etc... then thats what EVERYONE will do.

The High-End lottery states this as the groundworks for their lottery:
This is a High End Premium Lottery. If you cannot afford to send a minimum of two(2) $8-$10+++ cigars to our winner, do not sign up and if you are signed up, please give your number to someone who will play fair.

It's clearly stated what's required of the participants. None of this "your taste is different than my taste" excuse exists. That same principle should be stated for this lottery (and any other lotteries).

The bottom line is... we do not want to have some people paying out dog sticks (irregardless of what they smoke) when they lose and collecting premium sticks when they win. Is that so hard to understand?

ummmmm, no.

Maybe I went above and beyond a few times....but that was MY choice. My problem is when your supposed to be recieving good sticks and you get DOG ROCKETS.

If "something that you would smoke" are those CI knock offs, I hate to break it to you but those are dog rockets. Now if you have found a brand that you like, more power too you. But that is still not an acceptible subsitution for a quality smoke. IE those cost from .60 C upto like 2 bucks.

you want an example?

OK how about this:

Someone sends out his end and he sent: a montecristo series V and a RyJ Reserva Real

The next guys sends out his package and he sent: a fighting cock and a cupido.

I hope that is CLEAR as day cause it is to me.

Now I personally might not even smoke the Monte and the RyJ but those are still good sticks and withing the stated rules. Basically I don't think any 2fers can or should CUT IT!

Both Phil and Vewy are dead on with there assessment as far as I'm concerned.

Has anyone noticed how the lottories are dwindling down in participants? IMHO that is one reason why.

Maybe my .02 aren't even worth .02 since I'm not playing anymore....but I'm not playing anymore for the exact reason Vewy and Phil are talking about.
