Here you go... no need to post on the pass thread since there's a rule about that.

This pass should be pinned at the top of the new pass forun as an example of how not to run a pass. The host has no control over this pass and does not keep the passers updated as to whats going on. How long has it been.... 10 days since the host has said anything. I'm not sure we have ever had a pass as messed up as this one has been.

I've come to the conclusion that I just don't give a $hit anymore. If this is the rule, then let them learn the old fashioned way....

TFF

I think there should be a standard waiting period to start a pass, 6 months to a year sounds good

So should we beat them with your belt or mine? ROFLMAO! ;)

Have these on hand!
-Bull Whip
-cattle prod

Tell ya the truth, I have not watched a pass in a VERY long time. Since they've become absolutely ridiculous.

Just my $200.00 worth (since I am a snob)

Since I joined right after you, did that 6 months come in to play since we just passed the 6th month mark.

I read all these passes and the dramas that unfold, it seems that they start with the best of intentions. I want to start a pass but seems like there is soooo many things that can screw it up.

Guess I'll learn "the old fashioned way" allofus whateverthehell that means :p ;)

And this newb keeps up BTW, 7 minutes means I'm right on your ass

That's NOT the main problem Cliff. A brand new person is fully capable of starting a pass that can run perfectly and a seasoned veteran can start a pass that can turn into a disaster.

Pass "disasters" usually happen because:
1. Participants make "bad" plays which most times can be corrected and rectified WITH the assistance and guidance of seasoned veterans like cohibasurfer and MMM, etc. In almost every case, we all learn from it even though a few feathers may get ruffled. Of course there are those who meltdown and start "Who's the bigger a**hole?" threads
2. Participants drop of the face of the earth which really has nothing to do with how long the host has been a member of this board. For instance, shushi screwed over Triple_D and very few of us saw that coming. texasaggie pulled a disappearing act on Barney which was kind of a surprise........ If I didn't have such a low opinion of Barney, I'd be tempted to defend him on this but I'll just stick my hands in my pockets now ;)

Note the edit in Nic's first P/T's post.... :whistling:

The host sure as hell was watching and i pm'ed the guy to let him know he might want to reconsider.....oh well, so much for helping out the host and educating the newbs.... ;)

That was mainly meant as a joke. When I first came here, I wanted to start a pass and all. I got in on a couple to see how they were ran. But they don't seem fun anymore to tell ya the truth. I think the last pass that was ran successfully was Vewyphish's pass (which he did an excellent job on being the host). It's definitely not rocket science and should be easy to comprehend.

We all know what passes have been problematic folks.....

The problems are due to the lack of expectations associated with a few passes of late. If the pass originator doesn't set the expectations up front and allows questionable puts and takes, then it's doomed.

I have seen poor past hosting and much greed in passes lately, that's a shame.

Not true. I have been in two passes that worked out beautifully, even with some pt adjustments that had to be made. They had a lot of newbies in them, like myself, got a Fog inserted in the middle, and away we go. Also had good outside comments in them, ( a rule I am evidently breaking as I type :p )

I don't keep up with all the passes and it's a lot of reading if I did. I just merely thought of one that I kept up with. I didn't mean that vewyphish's was the only successful one ;)

I'd decided that I wasn't going to get in on this, since all the flap seems way over the top to me. Obviously I changed my mind...

"I won't join any more passes...", "The host really dropped the ball on this one..."
"You were offered some guidance and suggestions which you ignored..." yada yada yada.

I have run 3 (four?) passes of my own and helped supervise one. AFAIK, all of these proceeded without any major glitches, and nobody took their marbles and went home.

There's a lot of "Ain't it Awful" going on here, and I think it needs to stop. Newbies don't get encouraged to stick around when they see member getting beat up on each other.

Opinions and advice are exactly what they are, freely given and freely accepted or rejected. If you think your giving someone good advice and they reject that advice, it's not grounds to dismiss that person as unworthy to be on this board, or someone to refuse to deal with from that point on.

In re-reading this, I see that it doesn't really flow, so take each paragraph as a separate statement if you'd like. The homepage still describes this as the friendliest place on the net. If individuals don't start exercising some self-control, that won't be true much longer.

There was a time here when P&T mistakes were a rarity. Really! There was!
The difference now, I think, is that the participants are so careful to get the exact value of what they put in that they err on the side of profit. When I first did passes I was overly generous simply to avoid making a mistake and generosity was a way of thanking the host for putting the thing together and working with it as it went along. Now there are so many folks that are in it for there own enrichment that P&T gaffs are a near daily occurence. Everybody is trying to get away with something and Rod's new rule will help them accomplish that.

I haven't read the "Op:JC" thread but I've spent the past hour going through the entire "Gobstopper" pass thread. And I'm not gonna touch either with a 10-foot pole.

I would, however, like to say that I recently participated in my first pass ("After the Holidays" Pass) and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

My advice to newbies thinking about joining a pass: Do your research before joining a pass so you know what to expect and how to react when the pass arrives. And, if you have any questions, ask the pass host or a FOG.

I agree with CC that a newbie is "fully capable of starting a pass that can run perfectly and a seasoned veteran can start a pass that can turn into a disaster." I have not hosted a pass, but I can see that a successful pass needs good organization and communication. Posting the rules of the pass in advance, preparing the box well before it goes out, and overseeing the pass as it progresses are all key.

Just my dos pesos... btw, have I mentioned lately that I love this place? :D
