Are these like a grapevine that'll grow new leaves and flowers each year or does it come up as a shoot again from the roots?

From what I understand they die back to the root stock each year.

I've planted 2 centennial and 1 Chinook so far. No trellis, I just have em growing up and across my property line on a split rail fence.

Yes hope and weed are in the same family, as that is the reason we have a beer brewed by Oskar Blues called "Pinner". A "Pinner" is another name for a long thin weed "cigarette".

My hops are on year 4 I think, Cascade and Columbus. They were all the way up my 10 foot lattice by the end of May even in our terrible growing climate. Things are like weeds once they're established.

Took some pics of my hops yesterday. In the first pic, they start all the way off to the right. It's bout 6' straight up, then another 2-3' across to the string. Then the one bine is probably about 8' along that string.
