Today's Smoke 2023

Smoking one of my favorite cigars tonight and one of the best I have ever smoked. This is an Ashton VSG pre-release that was only sold in cabinets of 50 in two different sizes. The tobacco used in the pre-released cigars is very different than the first release and completely different from all subsequent years after the second year of production. The pre-release cigars had lighter wrappers, were peppery, spicy with wood and some leather and were an absolute blockbuster of a cigar.

The first release cigars had much darker rappers more of an earthy flavor still retaining some pepper spice but with more leather and some richness another excellent cigar on its own. I remember smoking many of the sorcerers which I believe was a Churchhill size and they were absolutely stunning complex with spice from start to finish.

The second year in production and on the VSG‘s got rather flat and one-dimensional losing a lot of the spice and complexity that made up the pre-release and first releases. I just bought a new VSG last weekend and smoked it and was definitely not a great cigar and nothing like the pre-or first release.

Anyway I’m gonna like this bad boy up and enjoy some really good Dominican tobacco. Cheers all.

Seeing a lot of great sticks lately Adam! You on an extended shore leave?
I've been collecting (possibly hoarding) while we were in USA for a while. In the Bahamas now, and between trips. There is no time like the present to enjoy great cigars. This CP family has been amazing at pointing me to some great smokes.
