#5 lifter has failed, running rough, engine light on... they are going to email me the info...

I see lifter failure all the time at work. Typically it can just be replaced, unless it dropped the value then it's new engine time.

I wish I knew more about this stuff... if it was a computer, they couldn’t hold me hostage to their knowledge... it’s just running rough, and a slight knock...

Did you bring it to a dealer or an independent shop?

I was traveling next to a Taycan today for a while, and have utterly fallen in love with this car.

Agreed. I saw one in the wild not too long ago. It's been a long time since a car made me look at it that hard.

I would definitely ask them why, besides lifter 5 being bad, that they are recommending an engine replacement over repairing the failed lifter. Usually at my dealer we replace the lifter and usually the cam, with no issues. I can only think of a couple of times where we had to actually replace the engine.

Yeah, those Porschemobiles can be some extremely aesthetically pleasing vehicles. 😂

I purchased my mid engine 2000 Boxster S used in May, 2013, with <30K miles. 😍

It was a one owner vehicle, the owner used it only for summer driving, and he traded it in for a new Porsche to the very dealership he originally purchased it from. It was a cream puff when I purchased it & it's a great automobile now at 21 years of age. I also only drive it during the Minnesota summers, as it is garaged from late October, until mid May. I keep good quality soft compound Z rated tires on it, it gets an oil change once a year, and it cost me basically nothing for maintenance. The performance to price point ratio is insane & it still looks almost new. Best thing I ever bought to drive.

Buy used, when you buy. ;)

They said tear down to replace cam and lifers, a/c condenser, etc would cost more...

Even if an engine replacement is needed that quote seems high, but I’m no expert like Paul... I replaced a 3.6 penstar in a 2012 JK for 5,300 parts and labor at a local specialist two years ago...

Agreed. It does seem a little high even for a dealer.

Is that the 5.3 v8 bill? I know they had problems with the older ones and cylinder deactivation but a newer one would surprise me. I would get a second opinion for sure. Fwiw I had a 2007 Tahoe with the 5.3 that I bought with 170k on it and put another 80-100k on it (lol I can’t remember now). It ate a little oil but never had an issue other than that.

I get real leary of the stealerships..

It’s a 2015 6.2 liter V8... that’s what I’m going to do.

It has 130,000 miles on it... but I had a tahoe that I put 300,000 miles with no problems at all...

Really sorry to hear that, I just paid my explorer off last week so assume something like that any day now.
Does this mean we can expect about 26 $500 Bill sales in the near future?

Wow that’s surprising then. The 6.2 have always struck me as bulletproof. Hope the second opinion is better than the first!

Do you have a obd code reader? Not super expensive and you can pull the codes and research on your own with a android phone. You can even clear the codes but I doubt that would fix the rough running.

I suppose you could always look at a trade in but with it running rough, they are going to discount it quite a bit...depending on what they are willing to give for it and what you were getting in return. Trucks are crazytime expensive.
