What are you listening to?

Just out of curiosity, MC, what are you using for a turntable? I got a VPI with an Audioquest tonearm and Sumiko Blue Point cartridge.

Doc.

I've got a couple of turntables Doc, at least that I routinely use (have some other Technics that are retired).

Of the couple I use, one is a Technics SL-1210M5G. Rigged the Technics with an Ortofon Nightclub S.

The second is a Thorens TD850. It's my baby in terms of my turntables. Play it frequently, and often vary between Bang and Olufsen , Nagaoka and Benz Micro.

Those VPIs are real beauts, especially those Scoutmasters (at least I think that's what they are called...scout something anyway). Definitely a nice turntable you have there Doc.

Edited to correct typo.

After torrential storms last night, on this partially cloudy-but-starting-to-clear-up morning, with everything still rain-drenched, presently:

I've been on a Beatles fix lately so, my favorite album of theirs, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The new Counting Crows, Whiskeytown: Strangers Almanac (WOW, some of the best tunes i've heard in awhile), REM: Accelerate, North Mississippi All Stars, Jason Isbell (great CD), and as usual, lots of Mofro, Drive By Truckers, Bonepony, Ryan Adams.

Oh, and the new The Presidents of the United States of America is some fun music, much like their previous stuff.

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
And you may find yourself in another part of the world
And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
And you may ask yourself-well...how did I get here?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the moneys gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

And you may ask yourself
How do I work this?
And you may ask yourself
Where is that large automobile?
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful house!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!

For some inexplicable reason, Super Session.

Doc.

Pink Floyd - The Division bell.

At this exact moment, the song Coming back to life.
I cannot get enough of this Album.

Still listening to a lot of Beirut. Got the wife liking them now also. Any of you who dig a little 'world' music flavor should check these guys out. Go with their latest release, "The Flying Club Cup." It's almost gypsy-esque, but with a lot of horns and great harmonizing.

Also listening to a lot of Fela Kuti, as usual, and Tinariwen. Tinariwen and the genre of music they fall into (North African Desert Blues) is my best find so far of 2008.

I just recently went to see the tenor sax player Jimmy Heath w/ the Georgia State Jazz band. I wish I could have heard more of the man himself but it must have been a real thrill for those students to have the professional workshop.

Jimmy Heath is a real legend in the business and is even known to some as Baby Bird. When he starts playing that sax, it is hypnotic.

As I sit here grading student projects, I am listening to the musical stylings of Dave Grohl & the Foo Fighters! Next Up, Shooter Jennings....
