Hockey

The Kovalchuk watch is over. Pete Chiarelli will probably be burned in effigy. Personally, and I'm one of the few, think it was the right move.

Doc.

The Wings looked like a pee-wee hockey team at the Pond against the Ducks the other day. Final was 3-1 Ducks. The Wings won nearly every faceoff, but the Ducks made it look easy by dominating the puck, and every puck was flying past Howard, who in my opinion, is normally a human wall. The one goal they did manage to score was a sloppy one, and the Ducks kept continually shutting down their offense, and making their defense scramble to survive.

They really need to get their heads out when they play the Kings on Saturday. I sure hope they win...

But hey, it was sure fun being at the Pond getting jeered at by Ducks fans! :laughs:

I'd agree for your Bs. I'm also pleased to see LA not make a move, despite what some fans might have thought :whistling: as they are on a good run and it'd be a shame to see them go backwards with a rental or tie their hands for the next 10 years. I think NJ made a decent deal without giving up too much although any defense with Colin White as a top guy would worry me. If NJ can sign Kovalchuk on top of the trade they'll have done well.

Personally I was glad that Lombardi didn't trade for Kovi. He sure would have looked good in a Kings uniform, but according to the inside sources, the asking price of Brown, Johnson, or Simmonds+ was way too steep for a rental. Now, had their been a multi-year deal in place, I'd consider moving Johnson. But as it stood, I'm glad Lombardi stayed pat.

The interesting thing to watch is whether or not Kovi signs with NJ. If he walks away after this season, then all this craziness will start all over again. I'm amused that Waddel took on Cormier as a prospect after what he's done in juniors. Lou must be ecstatic to get Cormier off his hands.

As far as the Kings go, 8 in a row! Tying a franchise record! A chance to break it against Detroit tomorrow. It will be very hard. Struggling or not, I'm always leary of Detroit and them getting some players back doesn't help the Kings chances. Go Kings Go!

All I have to say is 9 in a row! Also glad to see Lombardi keep the "kids" together. We can build in the off season and get UFA if need be. Just look what Ryan Smyth has done for the team.

9 in a row, very very nice! And, 3 of our players got hurt in the process! Even Howard said he wasn't happy with his performance tonight. What a let down, but franchise record for the Kings. Congrats! They've lost 9 games out of their past 12... Someone needs to shake them up, because this is looking sad.

I agree. I was actually surprised after all the hype leading up to the trade (as far as supposed demands were going to be) that the Devils got him for what they did. A decent defenseman, a good looking rookie, a hothead prospect, and a first rounder?? I feel bad for the team that signs him to a long term contract though...they'll be seriously hamstrung by the cap (unless they sign him to one of those front-loaded, cap circumventing contracts for 15 years).

Damn Flyers are driving me crazy. Shut out Calgary in Calgary, get shut out in Edmonton by the leagues worst team, then lose again on the road 2-1 to Minny. 5 goals in the last 4 games and Danny Carcillo has 2...how bad is that!

Going to tonight's Kings game and I'm sitting in a luxury box, needless to say I am freaking excited!

How'd you swing that??

Honestly one of my female friends, Kelly, has been providing me Kings tickets when ever she or her family does not go to the games. Normally seating was in the upper 300 levels in Staples, which are not bad seats if you ask me. Well long story short she sent me a text message on Tuesday of last week saying she had two extra tickets to the Kings V. Colorado game and she was wondering if I would be interested. Besides the fact she is a Colorado Avs fan she is basically perfect. Beautiful, intelligent, and she knows her hockey..... boys I think I am in love.

Enjoy. Are you going to be with a loud group or will it be a little stuffy?

As far as the group of people in the box, they were all Avs fans and needless to say they were not happy that the Kings won. :D

Glad you had a good time! I was watching the game at my favorite bar and cheering on the Kings! Once a season my family organizes a luxury box for our friends and family. It's nice to get some people to come to a hockey game that normally wouldn't go, and when you split the cost by 20 people, the price isn't too bad.

Since the NHL has taken the next couple of weeks off for the Olympic break lets talk about the international games that are on the schedule. I personally was able to watch the first period and half of the Czech v Russia game and the whole Canada v USA game today. I think the Canadian team dictated the flow of the game and held both the puck and momentum in their favor. It was rather odd to see both teams make mistakes and turning over the puck constantly. I was sad to not see Jonathan Quick not play in goal but his day will come some day. Jack Johnson played a pretty surprisingly defensive game. Dustin Brown was rather unnoticeable game. May be it was because he was wearing number 32 not his normal 23. Then again it seems his line-mates are more gear and or oriented to checking or a defensive shutdown line. All in all it was a great day to finally see international hockey too bad NBC showed the game at 4:30ish instead of 3 p.m. pst.... wtf NBC!

US beat the Swiss 2-0. What a great game. One of the best of this tourney. Nothing like watching two hot goal tenders go at it. I chain smoked 4 cigars.

Doc.

I can't get over how plucky the Swiss are. By all logic they should be losing 6 and 7 to 0 or 1.

Looks like the US will line up against Finland. That'll be a test if Kiprusoff plays like he did tonight. After 2 it's 3-2 Slovakia over Sweden to see who plays Canada. Either of those teams is going to be tough as well with the goalies they have. Hopefully it'll be a US-Canada gold medal match.

That sounds like a promo line for a gay Canadian porno. Not that I'd know, I'm just guessing. :whistling:

Not to change topic or anything but I really want to give NBC an EPIC FAIL for tape delaying events. I understand when the games are on the other side of the world but come on the games are in Canada and in Vancouver no less.

Sorry had to rage a bit.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Habs Tues. Leafs Thurs. and it's Don Cherry night. I wonder what he'll have in store for us. I can't wait to see what he's going to wear and say!

Did you hear what Al Michaels said before puck drop yesterday about Don's get-up? " I didn't know that February 28th was Halloween in Canada. "
