Musicians that smoke cigars!

I have been eyeing those two blends. You gave me the noodge that I needed to pull the trigger.
Thanks Dan.
I haven’t. But I feel they are interesting enough to do a review but not limited to the point as some Viaje or Tatuaje releases are where 6 months down the road they are impossible to find. By the way please DM me the link to your reviews I do enjoy reading these

I have no shame. 1981. The band The Attitude. Based in L.A.
We shamelessly did our own version of "Hound Dog."
We recorded it at Warner Bros. But the video had zero budget and it looks it.
On the recording, that's the real Little Richard playing piano...but not in the video.
And that is a 31 year old me on bass.

Thank you Dan. Have you tried either of these blends?

Have you had another Sosa Third Harvest since the one you reviewed about a decade ago? I think it was maybe that stick where I first read you way back then. I believe they were only sold as fivers.

I smoked the five I had and have been looking for some ever since.. not knowing their scarcity at the time. All 5, absolute dreams. My score: 98 all day (I could use 1 hand to count cigars I've smoked worthy of that score).

ETA: Here's Phil’s review.. and it looks like they did sell by the box. And at only $5 per stick!

I haven't smoked a Sosa in many years. While my palate has expanded and matured over 54 years, the most intensive growth occurred when I began writing reviews in 2010. I might love that Sosa now...and maybe not. The palate is bizarre and mystical. Like a fingerprint. I've grown out of so many cigars that it would be a long laundry list. Plus, I never go back and read my reviews after I publish them. I'm an idiot when someone asks me about something I smoked 10 years ago.

I have read through this thread one more time and a thought popped into my head.

If we see a review of a regular production non Cuban cigar there is an age factor question that plays a huge role in one’s experience.

I know not all NCs get better with age. But many do get better with about a year on them. Some continue getting better until they reach their peak and start declining in flavor.

As one example reviewing a 7000 Padron with 3-4 months on it vs 5-6 years on it would result is in a completely different experience at least for me.

Curious what others think on this

After 12 years of being a professional cigar reviewer, I now know less than I did than when I started. Trying to dissect specific characteristics from an organic product of leaves can go down a thousand paths.
Every smoker takes care of their stash differently...especially when you are speaking in years.
A glitch of any type can affect what you smoke. 100% perfect conditions aftermarket? No such thing.
Sometimes I read reviews of the same blend and each review is completely different than the other.
Which sort of makes reviewers totally unnecessary.
So, you find some reviewers who share a similar palate as yours and try to grab the ring with each purchase.
Smokers ask me detailed questions and I respond the same each time: "I dunno."

I personally love to read seasoned cigar smokers reviews. I typically don't use the nuances a individual picked up but perhaps the overall experience as a deciding factor on a purchase. I also enjoy reviews that are blind such as blind man's puff. But I believe you are dead on when it comes to replicating someone's experience unless say the smokes came from the same box.

You sir are a rare bird. Based upon statistics, smokers who visit review sites spend 30-90 seconds there. What does that mean? Two things...
First, the great majority of visitors merely find the cigar and scroll down to the numerical rating...and then split without really reading the review.
And second, fortunately there is enough guys and gals that enjoy reading. That have the patience to be drawn in. While I average around 175K readers each month, I have a small core of smokers that enjoy reading....a lost art. I've been blessed to make a couple hundred friends I keep in touch with...out of over 2 million hits per year.
That is why you standout. You admit to actually reading the content of someone who spent a good part of their day prepping and writing a review that is honest and sincere. So, while it is slightly disheartening to know that most smokers use us as merely a score-giver, it is thrilling to know that anyone at all is at least checking you out to see what you think.
Note: Constantly reviewing cigars blindly shows huge cajones. I certainly don't have the confidence to do that. So two snaps up to blind man's puff.

LOL... I read for the crazy exploits you share in your review. I mean... I don't need an actual puff by puff .. " I proceeded to ash the cigar at the 1 inch mark" BS. Myself, I want to know a few discerning flavor notes along with what happened on a bus ride in 1985.

I'm glad you cruised through CP and introduced yourself. The reviews are reading even better now since you met some of us. We have that effect here. ;-)

ETA: Is it effect or affect ? HELP!

Michael...your first instinct is correct about the spelling.
I appreciate your support.
I get that a lot...readers tell me they like my reviews but my music history stories is what they enjoy most...my tangential meanderings.
I am very flattered.
I'm odd and twisted...I know that.
As I look back, know what I think is cool?
I was 60 years old 12 years ago when I began this adventure of doing something completely new in my life.
If I asked my 40 year old self what do I think I'd be starting at age 60? Probably laugh...
I'm lucky to still be here. I am so lucky that I have stuck it out with my love of cigars.
So until a hit man takes me out, hired by a coalition of cigar manufacturers, I will keep trudging on.
Hang Ten Moon Doggie...

You'll probably be happy (or horrified) to know that I've purchased at least a few cigars based on your reviews. A couple that come to mind are the Diamond Crown Maduro and the HVC Cerro Maduro. Neither were really on my radar, and I liked both enough that I'm on my 2nd box of each. There are probably others where your review nudged me a little, but those 2 I know for certain.

I am honest. I report what I experience and say what I want. I am an outsider. And I grew. It is a nice to have a big digitaI family that I connect with that are weirdos like me...and love cigars. If I decide whether a blend is worth your time...I put my thumbs up or down like all the other reviewers.
The older I get, the more life experience my palate enjoys it gets sharper each year because the art of the cigar is a big part of my life. My grandfather Kohn was best friends with Julius Ceaser Newman in Cleveland both coming from Hungary. My gramps went to his grave extolling the virtues of knowing JC Newman. Pretty cool.
OK. The drugs have kicked in. I'm outta here.

Plus I get to use Carlin's 7 words, plus some...I make disgusting references of all types...and I link them all together. No big cigar industry website can allow profanity and sex in their blog. One friend told me if he looks up 'Cigar Porn' in the dictionary, it will show my katman logo.
I got really popular with the saltiest of talk and a good palate. I am as shocked as anyone that this kid from Long Beach, Ca is writing in a cigar forum after reaching decrepitude.
I appreciate you guys putting up with how clumsy my entrance has been. All you guys seem mature and sophisticated so that should show you just how dumb and naive I am.

I don't remember the cigar, but I had to chuckle when you gave a $13 smoke a score of 13. Sounds like that might be the kind of brutal honesty that has so endeared you to the manufacturers. 🤣
Most hate me. I have had confrontations with some names in the cigar industry. All swearing that they would run me out of the cigar industry...that I'd never get a job with any cigar outfit. I let them go one because why interrupt them while they are planning my doom?
I figured I would just let them stew awhile before someone eventually told this person that I don't work in the cigar industry. And I'm 90 years old.
Still, I have some very brave sponsors considering the X rated way I speak sometimes...and the topics. I'm ashamed if I read it again.
But oddly enough, I have some close friends who I met through a social platform that are the Captains of the Cigar Industry and they love when I go after someone for some viable reason. They tell me dirt. I can't use it. Or they won't be friends and advisors. All the same age as me.
Guys our age revel in meeting another one who hasn't been shot down yet. Still has it together. Smart. I repeat myself under stress...I repeat my...
I am no different than you guys young and old. I still think I'm 25. My body thinks I'm Moses. Allowing me to vent with cool brothers and sisses like you my friends make this an excellent choice to stick with...other forum platforms...always a bunch of trolls after me. I've gotten countless death threats. And to my wife as well. An email account got hijacked by trolls and they sent out phony emails to my friends and sponsors...acting like a real jerk. The the trolls sent the outgoing fake emails to me so I could be humiliated. I contacted everyone.
The Manischewitz is getting room temp...this time I will stay away.

As long as you aren't an asshats, which it seems clearly you aren't, it's a pretty great family here.
