It pays the bills..

I'm a middle school general and instrumental music teacher. Going on year 16.

I also work part time at a local brewery as a tap room attendant and tour guide.

For a while I was also in a local 90's cover band, and now I still do some playing/gigging whenever called upon for various bands in the area.
While the only thing I can play is the "On" switch" the music classes I had from Kindergarten through 6th grade influenced the rest of my life.

Especially considering what we have going on with all these mass shootings. I know I am skirting politics here, but I believe we have more of a mental health issue in this country than we do a gun control issue.
Luckily Charles Whitman is the only one we have had so far that actually knew how to shoot.

We had the privilege of sitting through Olivia's forst of many orchestra concerts, last night. 7th, 8th, 9th and HS all took turns playing 3 songs. I really enjoyed seeing the progression of talent, as the older kids played. Below are the 7th graders, from 3 middle schools.

I second this. Loved music class as a kid

Thats awesome! We do a similar concert in our district in March. Middle school plays, then High School, then we all do a song together. The great thing for me is seeing all of the kids who I've had since they were in 6th grade playing as seniors and being able to direct an ensemble of basically every student I have currently and have had in the past all in one ensemble.

Those days are over for me. My daughter played violin from 4th grade on. hearing them go from screeches to scoring straight ones at state was amazing.

Got fired by my wife after 13 years as a stay at home dad. I was able to take ten years of home roasting and parlay it into a micro-roastery coffee shop, where I serve as head roaster, lead barista, janitor and still don't get paid. It's tough being arm candy, but somebody has to do it.

How do you sleep at night, ingesting all that caffeine?

I thought collecting Elk semen was your job. Is that just a hobby?

I played the drums for years, but found I play the mixing console much, much better. Which got me curious about how things worked, and led me back into engineering school....and to where I'm at today. I've been giving some thought into getting back into audio design once I punch out of the computer business. On my terms, of course.....

Yeah I miss the dream of being a musician. As it turns out when you leave high school and stop doing drugs you realize you weren’t the influence to the generation that you thought you were 🤣 Did get the John Phillip Sousa though

Funny, I had more fun in my quasi-classic-rock band a few years ago in Germany than I ever did in any of my teenage bands. Back then you think you are out to change the world with visions of huge crowds, stadium shows, and tour busses. As a family man in my 30's, I loved just getting together with friends and playing at the local Irish pub once or twice a month for food and beer. I didn't even particularly like much of the music we played, but I had a blast just playing on stage in front of 20, 30, 40 people or so who were really into the staple cover tunes (and really drunk). I hope to find the same type of gig over here now that I have time to play, again.

If you’re ever in Michigan you let me know if you’re looking for a jam session. 😎
