My first pipe was a corncob, probably when I was 16 or 17, but it didn't last long, probably because of the tobacco I was smoking. After years of cigarette smoking I began smoking cigars and then worked my way back to the pipe- full circle!

Pipe smoking has raised my level of sophistication by a few numbers (now if I can only get the woman to notice more!) :laugh:

I do this too- I have so many jars, I'm running out of room! But it keeps the tobacco fresh- I wouldn't be able to smoke it fast enough!

Wow, great pipes! I need to take a road trip up to Boswell's shop one of these days. It's only about an hour and 15 minutes or so from where I live in Maryland. So do they have pipes for sale in the shop that are not available on the website? -eric d.

When I decided to venture into pipe smoking from the cigar world I asked my local tobacconist who also smoked a pipe what I should buy. Without even blinking an eye he said, "Corncob!". I admit, I was a little thrown off at first. But I respected him for not pushing an expensive briar pipe on...

The one type of pipe I still need to pick up is a meerschaum. Does anyone have any recommendations for a moderate priced meerschaum? I'm not sure where to start. Is there better quality meerschaum or is it all about the pipe carver style? Thanks! -Eric D.

I have only been smoking a pipe for about 5 months and have been buying tins of pipe tobacco regularly online from a couple of the popular online stores. My experience has always been that upon opening a tin of pipe tobacco it is moist, usually needing a bit of drying out prior to smoking...
